The cold and snowy north:(

I don't know what exactly I was expecting, an early spring thaw perhaps... but the quantity of snow and temperature here seem a lot to handle after leaving thirty degree sunshine:( We had a great trip back, we made it in two days, which was a big relief! The boys are unnaturally good in the car and besides minor mishaps with the cruise control not working this morning (it's working now) and a brief snow squall near syracuse, the whole trip was smooth sailing. We stayed at a Sleep Inn last night at mom and dad's recommendation but apparently we didn't stay at the right one, as it definetly wasn't as nice as the one they described staying at. Next time I will stick to my Fairfield Marriott's!. No troubles with our border crossing either, despite all the nooks and crannies of the car being full of our exceptional shopping deals:) Apologies for the lack of blogging our last week. We were busy taking of advantage of my parents.... emphasis on the "taking advantage" - they did a LOT of babysitting for us and it was much appreciated.... actually it made me wish once again that they lived CLOSER!!!! sigh. in a perfect world!

I am sad to see that there will be no more stories to read about your adventures in Florida...if only lfe in Ottawa was so exciting.

The sound of quiet!

I am so glad you made it home safely. I worried about the long drive and was relieved when John assured me that he would let you drive, Dana, to give a break. I think the exact words were, "the feeling of driving with your body here, but you're somewhere out there." It really relieved my mind to know he understood the effect of hours and hours of driving. OBVIOUSLY WE HAD A COMMUNICATION BREAKDOWN!

It is very quiet here now. I miss you all terribly. (but am getting over it rather nicely) Your dad is being very cooperative, sometimes even making suggestions to go look at ceramic tile. I think he is trying out a new strategy on me!

We have to work on the relaxing part of being here. It is so easy to work all day on a project and then the day goes by and we haven't gone bike riding or swimming or to the beach. We have done a lot of shopping for ceramic tile, plants, home depot stuff, etc.

I keep finding small items giving evidence of children. A tiny white sock, toy cars in the cupboard for next Christmas, a dead crab with a beautiful shell on the ledge in the garage!

Yesterday I took the cushions off the chairs and there was a dead gecko (nole) squashed flat under one of the custions.

The weather has been interesting. Last night we turned around and came home from going to the cinema, because of a tornado warning. We were warned to go into the bathroom of the house and get in the bathtub with a mattress over our heads if we saw a tornado coming. I asked Dan how we could see a tornado coming if it was dark out. (Apparently the sky will be unusual looking not dark more yellow, according to Aunt Catrina). There was a downpour all night it seemed and this morning. The afternoon was sunny and warm again and the weatherman assures us that hot weather is back for the next number of days.

So we look forward to new adventures in (as David calls it) 'our Florida house'.
